| A Brief History
The Tudor Dynasty began at the end of The War of the Roses, where two royal families that were descendants of Edward III fought for the throne of England. It began in 1455 and was fought until 1485 when Richard III was slain in battle and Henry Tudor was crowned King. The War of Roses got its name by the two family’s badges, the white rose for the Family of York and the red from the Lancaster’s. When Henry VII was crowned King he married Elizabeth of York unifying the two families.
During the reign of the Tudor Dynasty, England saw many changes and reformations. Henry VII left it a stable country with a good finance. Henry VII had many scandals and left the Roman Catholic Church leading it into a reformation in England. Edward VI had a protestant rule and purposefully tried to keep his two half-sisters off the throne when he died. Lady Jane Grey only lasted nine days as a Queen. Mary I also known as “Bloody Mary” had Protestants beheaded and had an illness that made her seem pregnant. Elizabeth I finally took the throne, she is considered one of the greatest rulers of England and her rule was known as the Golden Age.
